Roys Peak may be a 3 hour hike to the top summit but it is well worth all the effort for the spectacular views you get of Lake Wanaka and the surrounding snow covered Southern Alps Mountains.
Mt Iron Loop Track is shorter and easier, (about 1.5 hours to walk) and at the top you are rewarded with an overview of the town of Wanaka.

Head north from Wanaka and you can drive to Lake Hawea. Head south from Wanaka and you can drive the road to the old gold mining town of Cromwell, see the dams built along the river, and if you go onto the Kawarau Gorge there is bungy jumping and zip lining. Not for the faint hearted.
