This beautiful lake is part of a Department of Conservation site located just 6km west of Queenstown along the road to Glenorchy.
To get there drive your campervan along the Glenorchy Rd, turn into Moke Lake Road and up a winding road until you get to an unsealed road.
Follow this unsealed road for about 7 km to the Lake, passing through farmland with cattle stops and past a small lake before arriving at the Doc campsite. Your reward is a beautiful scenic spot off the beaten track not far from Queenstown with views of a serene lake framed with mountains.
The Moke Lake road is a bit tricky in winter and spring due to the unsealed road, otherwise its easy access with a small quiet campsite area for general use at the end of the road by the lake.
Boating, swimming, and fishing are all there for you, and a loop track for walking and mountain biking goes around the lake as well as to Lake Dispute.
If you want to walk or bike round Moke Lake loop track, start your walk at the small wooden bridge and head toward the western side of the lake. At the top you are rewarded with a view overlooking the lake and beyond.
The track is an easy grade 3 bike track, fishing for brown trout is a great pastime and canoeing and boating on the lake is popular, and all there for the outdoors person.
