Lindis Pass Scenic Reserve was formed in 1976 and is one of the first tussock reserves in New Zealand. Smooth hill slopes covered in tawny tussock grass and sharp prominent ridges dominate the scenery. Covered in snow in winter and yellow fluffy grass for the other parts of the year this special desolate place is a must stop and see.

It takes about 45 minutes to drive through The Lindis Pass, but you can always account for more time with the stops in between and photograph points along the way.

The Lindis Conservation Area is available for walking, tramping and mountain biking, taking anywhere from a few hours hour to a full on tramping trip of several days. The area is known for its wildlife and high alpine ridges, and also for its harsh weather conditions. Very hot sun and dry conditions in the summer, and subject to snow and alpine ice during the winter, the area is changeable, so go prepared with water warm and waterproof clothing and sturdy boots.

The Omarama area near Lindis Pass is home to the wonderful Clay Cliffs, as well as the Wairepo Kettleholes Conservation Area and the Ahuriri Conservation Park. Many walks and cycle track are available from easy to difficult, and the areas are home to large populations of various native bird life. Driving to Lindis Pass

The drive to Lindis Pass from Wanaka and That Wanaka Tree is about 1 hour, and from The Lake Tekapo end and the Church of the Good Shepherd its about 1 hour 30 minutes.
